Spit Fire

by Andreas John Kamateros

I am the fire ant

on the moebius strip

in statu nascendi.

I spit fire, while

Prometheus pilfers it.

(There may be

a little Prometheus in me.)

Fire to forge and cleanse,

like the lame Hephaestus—

a firebrand,

a transmuter of sparks,

from grey matter

to charcoal on bleached wood to

grey matter again,

a conductor of heat.

Dionysius funnels ambrosial brew

down the pipe

in vino veritas.

I must continue

to create fire,

to fan the flames,

in perpetuum.

For in my hourglass,

the seeping grains are quicksand.
